Initial Consultation

If you have reached the point where you are considering contacting a family law attorney, you are probably undergoing an emotional and stressful time in you life. Though it will be difficult, you will need to sort out your emotions from the facts in order to proceed because even in family law matters, the court will uses a rational, business like approach. Our experienced advice and involvement can help.

Our job is to use your knowledge of the facts to counsel you on the relevant issues of your case and to help you approach your situation with reason rather than emotion. Many people are surprised by what they learn during an initial consultation because they do not anticipate all the factors that may affect the likelihood of achieving a successful outcome. How could they? An experienced attorney is trained to apply the law to your particular situation and to work with you to get the best results possible. Schedule an initial consultation by contacting us by phone or email.

To get the most out of your initial consultation you need to be prepared to ask questions. Make a list so you do not forget to ask the things that really seem appropriate. The adage, "There are no dumb questions," is true. We do not expect you to understand all of the issues or legal terms and we will do our best to avoid complicated legal language. But if you do not know the meaning of a legal term or any legal procedure, ask for clarification. You need to understand everything that is going on so you can make the best decisions possible.

Start your preparation by reading our Divorce Primer. We have prepared this document as a general statement about divorce in Oregon. It answers many of the questions that our clients have asked us in their initial interview. It also discusses our client's relationship with our office, and the professional services that we provide.

Finally, download and complete our Initial Intake Questionnaire. Then, contact us by phone or through our Contact Form to schedule an appointment for your initial consultation. Please bring the Intake Questionnaire with you to our initial consultation.

We are willing to hold an initial consultation by telephone for individuals who do not live in the area but have a case in one of the counties in which we practice. Call and arrange a time for the conference with our receptionist. You will be expected to pay for the consultation at the time it occurs.
